Ghana is the place to be in December🇬🇭

Independence Square

Christmas break looked a little different this year. I decided I wanted to take a solo trip to Ghana and experience Detty December. Highly recommend you visit Ghana! 5 stars 10/10 best trip! The people are welcoming, the food is full of flavor and love, and the atmosphere from day to night is nonstop!

Dancing at the Art Market

I was in Accra, Ghana for 12 days. When I travel I like to get the experience from a local point of view with a mix of luxury, and during my twelve day stay I got all of that.

Jamestown Lighthouse

My first three days I spent in Kasoa which is about an hour from Accra with traffic. While there I stayed with a family friend and got experience the Ghanian way of life. Eating fresh bread and eggs for breakfast, walking around the area, seeing a community that truly believe in helping each other. I also was able to get my hair braided for 250cedis which equals around $27USD. I could not pass up the deal! All the girls know when you go to Ghana you get your hair braided. Auntie only took 3.5 hours to braid my knotless waist length braids. It was experience to say the least.

After braiding using fire to seal the ends of my hair. I was so nervous.

Let’s talk food, Ghanian food was full of flavor and love! I felt like someone’s grandma was in the kitchen cooking at every restaurant I visited. I tried jollof rice, waakye, banku and okra soup, fufu and light soup, fried chicken and fish, plantains, and kelewele. It was all so good! My favorite was the banku and okra soup.

So let’s talk about night life in Accra! Honey, Ghana is that girl! I do not think people sleep! I was staying up way past my bedtime having the time of my life!!!! From day parties that start at 3:00pm to finishing the nights at when the sun rises! The fun didn’t stop, I was going from place to place to eating jollof rice for breakfast! Also, enjoying the beach at 4:00am with shisha, wine, and fireworks! Ghana has something for everyone! I truly enjoyed myself to say the least! I highly recommend you visit Bloom Bar, Hydeout, Shisha Lounge, and Labadi Beach!

Fireworks at Labadi Beach

There’s also more to Ghana than just partying and eating. You can visit the Slave Castles on the East Coast, hiking to see the many waterfalls, national parks, and every type of market you can imagine! I had a chance to go to the Art Market and I bought some really nice things. I also had a chance to hike to a small waterfall. I thought I was never going to make it back to the car. It as definitely one of the most challenging things I did while I was on my trip!

Finally making it to the waterfall! First mistake was wearing crocs. But I completed the task!

You are probably wondering how did I get around Ghana. Well, long story short it’s good to know people. I have a friend that I’ve met in the UAE from Ghana, and he set me up with a driver. Personally, having a driver made my solo trip very successful. He literally was my body guard. I felt so safe and he knew the area so it was easy to navigate. Ghana also offers Bolt which their version of Uber and I felt safe during my rides, and there are taxis drivers everywhere. So getting around Ghana is not hard.

Mohammed the driver and body guard!

As you can see I truly enjoyed myself in Ghana, and I can’t wait to go back! Ghana you will see me again! Until next time…

Be sure to visit this shop when you go to the market! It’s in the back. Tell him Ashante sent you!
